ITW Formex Introduces Formex TCI: A Breakthrough in Thermally Conductive Insulation for EV and Power Electronics
Carol Stream, IL — February 2025 – ITW Formex has launched Formex TCI, a next-generation Thermally Conductive Insulation material designed to enhance heat dissipation and dielectric insulation in electric vehicles (EVs), power electronics, and industrial applications. Combining high thermal conductivity (1W/m·K) with superior electrical insulation, Formex TCI extends the operational life and reliability of critical electronic components.
As EV technology advances, effective battery cooling is essential. Formex TCI functions as a dual-purpose insulation layer between the battery pack's cooling system and its cells, ensuring electrical insulation while enabling rapid heat transfer. This integration prevents overheating and enhances battery efficiency, helping manufacturers meet rigorous thermal management and safety standards.
Beyond EV applications, Formex TCI is an optimal solution for power electronics, where it dissipates heat efficiently while maintaining electrical safety. By reducing thermal resistance between heat-generating components and cooling systems, it contributes to improved performance and durability in high-power applications.
Engineered for high reliability in demanding environments, Formex TCI has obtained UL Yellow Card certification, achieving recognized temperature ratings of RTI (Elec) 120°C and RTI (Str) 115°C, along with a UL94 V-0/VTM-0 flame-retardant rating. The material is available globally through ITW Formex’s distribution network.
